Letters join up

بَ ← بـ ← ـبـ ← ـب

Bā’ alone, at the start, in the middle, at the end

In Arabic, letters in a word are joined like cursive handwriting. Most letters change shape a little depending on where they sit: at the start, middle or end of a word.

The good news: the core shape and the dots never change. Look for the dots first.
